MARBLE HILL HOUSE AND PARK and CHISWICK HOUSE AND GARDENS – Thursday 11th August 2016 – BOOKING NOWChiswick House is a magnificent neo-Palladian villa set in beautiful historic gardens in west London. Built by the third Earl of Burlington in 1729 to showcase his rich art collection of old Master paintings and to enthral his guests, the house continues to display many spectacular works of art and provides a stunning venue for entertaining. A £12.1 million project unveiled in June 2010  has restored the 18th century gardens created by William Kent. The gardens are the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement and have inspired countless gardens including New York's Central Park. Marble Hill is a real treat as this beautiful Palladian villa is set in 66 acres of outstanding riverside parkland near Richmond in West London.  Built for the remarkable Henrietta Howard, mistress of King George II when he was Prince of Wales, and friend and confidante of some of the most clever men in England, the house and gardens were intended as an Arcadian retreat from crowded 18th-century London. Its grand interiors have been exquisitely restored and recreated and include a fine collection of early Georgian paintings. There can be few places in England which better recall the atmosphere of fashionable Georgian life.   Our visit will start with an 11am tour of either the paintings or a general tour focussing solely on Henrietta Howard, her life and circle at Marble Hill, leaving by 12:45 at the latest for lunch at the cafĂ© in the grounds at Chiswick House from 1:15 to 2:00 and a tour of Chiswick House from 2:15 to 3:30, which then allows an hour to have a look around the grounds before departing.  Coach Pick Ups:  8:15am at Michael Herbert Hall, Wilton OR 8:30am at Millstream Car Park, Salisbury OR 8:45am at London Road Park & Ride.    Cost: £29 (English Heritage Members £18) to include coach, driver's gratuity, all entrances and tours at both Houses.  Our Grosvenor or Taylor's Coach will leave Chiswick House at 4:30pm.  Please do  consider using the coach loo and bringing a packed lunch and a flask so you don't have to wait or queue on this outing as timings are tight.
