Volunteers at the Hospital Needed

I have donated two old hearing aids that were made by a company I worked for many years ago. They are for the Hospital Museum.

Did you know they had a museum? No I did not and neither do many Hospital employees.

Finally I tracked down Lesley Meaker and she gratefully accepted my gift.

I then found that Lesley has managed to get an HLF grant for the History Project. For this Volunteers are needed. I have pasted below some of the information about this project. If you are interested - and it looks very interesting -  then contact Lesley [details below].

Sci-Tech Visit to Northdown Plantation directions



Northdown Plantation is located on the left side of the lane going to the hamlet of South Litchfield ⅜ mile south of the crossroads of Burley Lane and Waltham Lane.  It is clearly marked by name on OS Explorer series map No. 144. Map ref. SU 532 473. For Google or Satnav it's near postcode RG25 3BP

Directions


From M3 come off at junction 7. Take A30 westwards and after less than 2 m turn right beside the Wheatsheaf Hotel and proceed to North Waltham. At T junction in village bear left, then take Waltham Lane (keeping left of the church) heading for Overton. Proceed for about 2 miles, passing over a crossroads, going under a narrow railway bridge and climbing a long hill. At the top, turn left at the crossroads and Northdown Plantation will be found on the left after ⅜ mile.

From Basingstoke take B3400 towards Overton. About 5 m after leaving outskirts of Basingstoke you will pass the Deane Gate Inn on your left. Proceed for another ¾ m on B3400 and turn left at the signpost to South Litchfield into Burley Lane. Climb the long hill to the crossroads and go straight on and Northdown Plantation will be found on the left after ⅜ mile.

From A303 take slip road signposted Micheldever Station. (a) If travelling west from Basingstoke turn right at bottom of slip road, go under A303, and immediately take first right along lane signposted Popham airfield. Then take first left, keep left after ¾ m, and after another 1¼ m Northdown Plantation is on the right. (b) If travelling east from Andover take second road signposted Micheldever Station, at bottom of slip road turn right then immediately left (do not go under bridge) along lane signposted Popham airfield, then as italic.

A trip to the Bishop’s Palace Garden, Wells and Milton Lodge Gardens.

Coach leaves The Green, Laverstock at 8.20am and the bottom of Old Blandford Road at 8.45am. Arrive at the Bishop’s Palace at 10.30, in time for coffee. There will be a tour of the garden at 11am staying over lunchtime. Depart at 2.15 for Milton Lodge Gardens. Conceived in approx 1900 by Mr Charles Tudway, the present owner’s great grandfather, it is a series of terraces with views over Wells.

Depart for Salisbury 4.30 arriving at approx 6pm.

Sarum U3A Visit to Denbies Winery 28 July


SARUM U3A VISIT – THURSDAY 28th JULY 2016

DENBIES WINE ESTATE DORKING

A “Sparkling Wine Tasting Experience” starts in the brand new flat screen cinema. Learn about the geology and history of the estate and experience the changes in the vineyard through the seasons and appreciate the wine making process from vine to bottle. This is followed by a “Winery Walking Tour” passing through the working winery with a full commentary from Denbies Wine Tour Guide we will see the equipment used in today’s wine production with particular emphasis on the sparkling
disgorging line installed in 2013. The journey ends in the atmospheric Denbies cellars where we will be guided through a tasting of three of their award winning sparkling wines. There are two restaurants on site, The Conservatory Restaurant (self service) for full refreshments and coffee and The Gallery Restaurant (a la carte).
