Sci-Tech News

Following on from Monday's somewhat disastrous meeting where the speaker failed to arrive I have had an email. This said that he was called on an emergency call out to Tisbury.
But attached to Joe's email was a PDF that answered some of the questions that you had given me earlier and that I had passed on to him.  See HERE

Time to Learn More – In Depth Study Groups

One of the objectives the committee members set was to encourage individuals to pursue their studies as far as they desired.
This article discusses this asking what members want to study in greater depth than at normal U3A sessions.

House of Lords Chamber Event 7th December

House of Lords Chamber Event 7th December
NB. Change of Date

As you will have seen in Third Age Matters the U3A movement has been invited to participate in an inter-generational debate in the House Of Lords alongside 110 14-18 year old students from 10 state schools.

This is such an exciting opportunity for us and U3A members interested in attending have already been contacting us but we still have space and I would very grateful if you would let your members know.

We have to get the names to the House of Lords as soon as possible so if any of your members are keen to come please ask them to email national office.

Anybody who would like to attend should email us with full contact details or if no access to email, telephone before November 12th as we have to submit details to The House of Lords that day.

FLORA FRIENDS

I am getting in touch because you have approached us in the past year to request a Talk from Plantlife.

I am sorry that we do not have the staff resources to give talks throughout the UK. Instead we are now building up a network of knowledgeable volunteers to help us - Flora Friends.

We are launching our new Flora Friends scheme now and the newly revised powerpoint talk, script, and Pack is available to successful applicants.

See this webpage for more details:
http://www.plantlife.org.uk/support_us/florafriend/

Would you, or a member of your community or interest group, be interested in this voluntary role?

Flora Friends who take this on and volunteer over a period of time with us receive a certificate, and will feature on our website and may be included in our magazine.

If you, or someone you know, is interested, please do contact me - or ask them to contact me. It could suit students of ecology, or retired people wanting to develop new activities.

To be eligible to become a Flora Friend you simply have be a current member of Plantlife, and want to play an active part in wild plant conservation.

I hope to hear from you!

With best wishes Alison Craig
